The virtuous woman has been preached and talked about for centuries. The well known Proverbs 31 has no doubt been read by many women. We have found ourselves asking the question, Can I measure up to her? The answer given is yes. There is only one prerequisite for filling the shoes of a virtuous women.
When it comes to favor and beauty God looks upon them in a different light as the world looks. He calls them deceitful and vain, when comparing them to a woman that fears the Lord.
The world would do good to follow trhe example of a virtuous woman. There would be less divorces, less poverty and more God fearing women if the virtuous woman were prevalent in today's society.
It seems to me the concept of Proverbs 31 went out some time during the nineteeth century. The women before us who paved the way naturally lived the virtuous woman's life. Their husbands were head of household, loved his family and brought them to church.
During the era children were obiedient to parents, neighbors helped neighbors, schools were also the church house. Yes, there were some who refused to live Godly lives as noted in the next paragraph. We as women can't change society as we see it, we can live a virtous life and pray for those around us.
There is a book entitled Wild Women, women who refused to live by the standards of virtuous living. They lived there lives out as bank robbers, psychic's, poker player's and murderer's. Those were the one's who failed to see the light.
Having said that the women who did attended church, were expected to live in submission to their husbands, no questions asked. They were homemakers, content to stay home and take care of their own.
The virtuous women of old saw their mother's example. In this fast paced world I'm afraid that the example of chaste women is few and far between.
In the church world there should be without a doubt more preaching and more classes on godly behavior among the young. Paul admonishes Timothy of this and we should do no less.
In the past there were women that feared the Lord and then there were those that went the way of evil. As time continues to move toward's the coming of Christ there will be those who play out the words in Rev. 22: 11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still but that by no means gives us permission to stop teaching those who do hold to virtuous living.
